Women’s Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight with 14-2 Defeat of Maritime

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the Knights with five goals as the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (4-3, 3-0 Skyline) won its fourth straight game with a 14-2 rout of Maritime College (2-6, 0-3 Skyline) in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening at Kaplan Field.
 
The Knights shut out their guests, 10-0, in the opening half, which included three of Massmann's five. Freshman attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) also hit the back of the net three times in the first half to help the Knights put the game out of hand quickly.
 
Massmann and sophomore defender Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) each added two goals in the second half to get the Knights to 14. Hannah Pell and Leanne Lavelle each picked up a goal for the Privateers to get them on the board.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) picked up the win with six saves on Tuesday. Meghin Paczkowski stopped eight shots, but allowed 14 goals to suffer the loss for Maritime.
 
Scicutella totaled four points with two goals and two assists in the Knights' win. Senior attacker Nicole Palmieri (Elwood, N.Y.) matched her four points with three assists and a goal. Sophomore midfielder Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) tallied three points with a goal and two assists. Scicutella, freshman defender Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) each scooped up three ground balls, while Massmann, Clemens, McDermott and freshman midfielder Kayla Goman (Greenwich, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers.
 
Pell and Lavelle scored the only two goals for the Privateers. Paczkowski picked up a game-high five ground balls, and Lavelle caused a game-high three turnovers.
 
The Knights held a 28-9 advantage in shots on Tuesday, including a 22-8 edge in shots on goals. The Knights won all 18 draw controls in their win, but the Privateers managed to grab 21 ground balls to 20 for the Knights.
 
The Knights return to action on Thursday, April 3, when they host Ramapo College in non-conference action. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. under the lights at Kaplan Field.
