Women’s Lacrosse Impressive in 14-3 Win at Mount Saint Vincent

YONKERS, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (3-3, 2-0 Skyline) won its third straight game on Saturday, defeating Skyline Conference rival College of Mount Saint Vincent (2-4, 1-1 Skyline), 14-3, at Tibbetts Brook Park. The Knights' three wins have all been by double digits.
 
The game was close in the early going, as both teams were tied at 2-2 at the 22:35 mark in the first half. The Knights then went on a six-goal run to go up 8-2. The Dolphins got one back at the 3:41 mark to cut the Knight lead to 8-3 heading into the half. A defensively impressive first half was outshined by an even better second half for the Knights, as they shutout their hosts, 6-0, in the final frame on Saturday's game.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) notched her third win of the season on Saturday, stopping six shots and allowing just three goals. Kacie McCormack suffered the loss for the Dolphins, allowing 14 goals, but making 12 saves.
 
Freshman defender Amanda Clemens (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the Knights with three goals on Saturday. Freshman attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.) picked up three points on two goals and an assist, while junior attack/midfielder Danielle Krupka (Northport, N.Y.) netted a pair. Senior defender Molly Bauer (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore defender Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) matched for a game-high with four ground balls each, while Scicutella led the Knights with three caused turnovers. Clemens grabbed a game-high four draw controls.
 
Melina Mezzanotte scored two of the Dolphins' three goals in Saturday's loss. Kelly Fraser netted the third. Samantha Ramsden handed out the only assist for the home team. Colleen Walsh led the team with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
 
The Knights fired off 28 shots compared to just 10 for the Dolphins. 26 of the Knights' shots went on goal, while nine hit the net for Mount Saint Vincent. The Knights held the edge in ground balls, 27-16, while also taking a 14-5 advantage in draw controls.
 
The Knights return to action on Tuesday, April 1, when they host Maritime College in Skyline Conference action at Kaplan Field. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
