Trio of Hat Tricks Leads Women’s Lacrosse to 20-4 Defeat of Manhattanville for First Win

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Three Knights recorded hat tricks as the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team (1-3) got into the win column for the first time this season with a 20-4 rout of Manhattanville College (0-6) Thursday evening at Kaplan Field.

Junior attack/midfielder Danielle Krupka (Northport, N.Y.) tallied three goals and handed out a pair of assists to lead the Knights with five points on the evening. Senior midfielder Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) added an assist to her three-goal Knight for four points, while freshman attacker Katie Gattoni (Old Tappan, N.J.), the Knights' leading goal scorer, added three netters as well.

The game was tied 1-1 after a Manhattanville goal at 27:15 in the first half. The Knights then went on a six-goal run that included all three of Gattoni's scores to take a 7-1 lead. They closed out the half with three of the final four goals to take a 10-2 lead into the break.

The Knights matched their first half effort with a 10-2 advantage in the second half to reach the final score of 20-4. Krupka scored two of her three goals, while freshmen Vittoria DiBella (New Windsor, N.Y.) and Fae Kuhnen (Bayside, N.Y.) each scored for the first time in their collegiate careers. Kuhnen scored the final two goals of the game for the Knights with less than two minutes to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the season with seven saves. Kirsten Shaughnessy shouldered the loss for the Valiants, but made a game-high eight saves.

Senior attacker Nicole Palmeiri (Elwood, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) and Kuhnen each scored twice on the evening, with McGinnis completing a three-point night with an assist. Sophomore attacker Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) dished out a game-high three assists, adding a goal for a four-point effort.

Mallory Bakst led the Valiants with a hat trick, while Sarah Dalsey scored the other Manhattanville goal. Dalsey also led the Valiants with three ground balls.

The Knights fired off 40 shots on the evening, while Manhattanville managed just 16. 30 of the Knights shots went on goal. The Knights picked up 24 ground balls, while the Valiants scooped up just nine. The Knights also held the edge in draw controls, 17-9.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, March 22, when they take on SUNY College at Old Westbury for their first Skyline matchup of the season. The game will be played at St. Joseph's College's (L.I.) Danzi Stadium in Patchogue, N.Y. and will begin at 7 p.m.
