Men’s Lacrosse Drops 16-3 Decision at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team (0-3) suffered a 16-3 defeat at the hands of Haverford College (1-3) Tuesday afternoon at Swan Field.

The game was tied at 1-1 after sophomore midfielder Sebastian Cina Jr. (Colts Neck, N.J.) scored his first goal of the year at the 9:52 mark of the first quarter. Haverford scored the next five goals before freshman attacker Joseph Rizzotti (East Meadow, N.Y.) took advantage of a man-up opportunity for his fourth netter of the year. Four more goals for the Fords led to a 10-2 halftime deficit.

The Fords opened up the second half with four straight goals before the Knights got back on the board. Junior midfielder Henry Schof (Montgomery, N.Y.) picked up his first score of the season on another man-up opportunity at the 5:22 mark of the third quarter. Haverford closed out the game with two more goals in the fourth quarter to push its lead to 16-3.

Eric Caliendo earned the win for the Fords, allowing just three goals while making five saves in 45 minutes of play. Junior goalkeeper Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) suffered the loss, stopping 12 shots in the process.

Christian Clay had an enormous game for Haverford, scoring six times and assisting on four more for a 10-point afternoon. Jack Bodine netted four goals for the Fords, as well as an assist of his own. Geoff Geppert dished out three assists and picked up five ground balls.

Rizzotti led the Knights with two points on a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.) matched his two points with a pair of assists. Senior midfielder Stephen White (Schenectady, N.Y.) picked up a game-high six groundballs and won 8-of-16 faceoffs.

Haverford fired off 52 shots on Tuesday, compared to just 13 for the Knights. They were successful on 17-of-19 clear attempts, while the Knights completely 13-of-18. The Fords also picked up 35 ground balls, while the Knights scooped up 24.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, March 15, when they host Centernary College (N.J.) in their home opener at Kaplan Field. The opening faceoff is set to take place at 1 p.m.
