MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore starter
Brandon Lubrano (Mineola, N.Y.) tossed a complete game gem to lead the Mount Saint Mary College baseball team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Lancaster Bible College Monday night in the Knights' first game of the Ripken Experience in South Carolina.
Lubrano improved his record to 2-0 on the season with a nine-inning beauty Monday night. He allowed six hits and did not walk a single batter, while also striking out six. He has allowed just one run across 15 innings in his first two starts of the season.
The Knights first got on the board in the third inning when junior right fielder
Rocco Pepe (Commack, N.Y.) scored from third on a passed ball for what proved to be the winning run of the game. They really broke it open in the bottom of the seventh when senior left fielder
Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) smacked a three-RBI triple to improve the lead to 4-0. Carminati scored on the next play when freshman shortstop
Steve Notaro (Staten Island, N.Y.) grounded out to shortstop, which capped off the Knights' scoring for the evening.
Carminati led the way with three RBI in a 2-for-3 effort on Monday. Sophomore second baseman
James Nakashian (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Pepe hit 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
No Charger hitter managed more than a single hit in Monday night's affair. Shortstop Justin Taylor went 1-for-3 out of the leadoff spot with a stolen base. Nate Burns shouldered the loss for Lancaster Bible, allowing five runs on eight hits and four walks across 6.1 innings.
The Knights return to action today, March 11, with a doubleheader against Penn State-Harrisburg. Game times were set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
