Swimming Sweeps Skyline Double-Dual Meet on Senior Day

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – On a day in which they celebrated their four seniors, the Mount Saint Mary College men's and women's swimming teams each swept their respective double-dual meets against SUNY College at Old Westbury and the College of Mount Saint Vincent to pick up a pair of crucial Skyline Conference victories on Saturday at the Kaplan Center.

Seniors Ellen Slocum (Chatham, N.Y.), Alli Turnbach (Brick, N.J.), Mark Bohlinger (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Conor Dowd (Massapequa, N.Y.) were honored with gifts, flowers and balloons prior to the afternoon's three-team matchup for their contributions to the swimming program throughout their tenures at the Mount.

The Mount men (6-6, 2-2 Skyline) defeated a shorthanded Mount Saint Vincent (0-9, 0-3 Skyline), 149-11, while also defeating Old Westbury (3-6, 0-4 Skyline), 114-79. The Mount women (9-4, 5-0 Skyline) fared just as well, defeating Mount Saint Vincent (1-9-1, 0-3 Skyline), 100-53, and also defeating Old Westbury (3-9, 0-5 Skyline), 103-63.

Sophomore Sam Watson (Groton, Conn.) picked up a pair of individual wins for the Knights, touching first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.37), winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.54) and also leading off the victorious 200-yard medley relay team. Junior Ryan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y.), Dowd and Bohlinger finished up that relay for a total time of 1:50.01.

Sophomore Christopher Sagan (West Hempstead, N.Y.) won both long-distance races in Saturday's meet, finishing the 1,000-yard freestyle at 12:05.94, and then finishing first in a close 500-yard freestyle at 5:51.52.

Sophomore Lauren Becerra (White Plains, N.Y.) swept her three events on the afternoon. She started with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:03.07), then another in the 200-yard individual medley (2:24.67) and finished up with the top time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.88).

Junior Meghan Seaman (Staten Island, N.Y.) also turned in a solid effort with a pair of individual wins. She touched first in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:07.72, and then she won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.81. She also swam the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay that had the top time at 1:57.52. Freshman Allison Sciucco (Middletown, N.Y.), freshman Jessica Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) and Turnbach rounded out that relay foursome.

The Knights next compete at the Skyline Conference Championships, which will be held at Purchase College on Thursday, Jan. 30. The teams will hit the pools at 5 p.m.
