Hot Shooting Fuels Men’s Basketball to 92-53 Romp of Maritime

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team (9-4, 5-1 Skyline) put up its highest scoring output of the season in a 92-53 rout of Skyline Conference opponent Maritime College (3-9, 1-4 Skyline) on Saturday at the Kaplan Center. The win clinches a season sweep of the Privateers.

Senior guard Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) led a balanced scoring attack for the Knights with 19 points on the afternoon. Senior forward Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) followed with 15 points and sophomore guard Stephen Steyer (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up 12. Senior forward Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 boards.

Senior guard Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the Knights to a season-high total of 28 assists with six of his own. Senior guard AJ Uhl (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) dished out five off the bench, while Pisciotta and senior guard Steve Phillips (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) each handed out four assists.

The Knights never trailed in Saturday's victory. Halfway through the first half, the Knights led their opponents by 14 at 25-11. They went on to outscore the Privateers, 22-11, the rest of the half to take a 47-22 lead into the locker room.

The Knights came out flying in the second half, quickly upping their lead to 59-29 at the 16:32 mark. The home team then went on an 18-0 run that included an eight-minute scoring drought for the Privateers to grab their biggest lead of the season at 48 points with 8:50 to play. The Knight offense slowed down for the rest of the game, resulting in the final score of 92-53.

Maritime's Sean Corley led the Privateers with 15 points and nine boards on the afternoon. Tim McNamara followed with 11 points.

The Knights shot an impressive 56.7 percent (34-of-60) from the field in Saturday's win, including 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Knights dominated in the paint, outscoring the visitors, 44-16. The Mount bench also contributed big time in the victory, outscoring Maritime's bench, 37-9.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 14, when they visit NYU-Polytechnic for a Skyline Conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
