Box Score 2 FISHKILL, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College senior
Tim Stauder (East Meadow, N.Y.) came through with a pinch-hit, game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Knights rallied for a 13-12 victory in the second game of a Skyline Conference double-header on Sunday. The Mount (8-9 overall, 3-5 Skyline) also won the opener, 9-7.
Trailing 12-11 entering the final inning of game two, the Knights loaded the bases for senior
Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Matuk was hit by a pitch, forcing home the game-tying run. Stauder entered the game, and after swinging at a pair of pitches out of the strike zone, grounded a single back through the box to allow freshman
Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.) to cross with the winning run. The team poured out of the dugout and mobbed Stauder at first base in celebration.
Senior
Joe CoFrancesco (Hamden, Conn.) pitched two and two thirds innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Knights. He allowed just one hit and one walk. Freshman
James Nakashian (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs to lead the offensive punch for the Mount. Leone finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while junior
Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
In the opening game, the Knights trailed 8-3 after seven, but rallied for eight runs in the bottom of the eighth. Carminati led off with a double and scored on a single from senior
Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.). Graduate student
Paul Cherubino (Middletown, N.Y.) followed with a single to load the bases and a Mount Saint Vincent balk allowed each of the runners to move up. Junior
Chris Chieffo (Waterbury, Conn.) laced a two-run single to cut the Mount deficit to just a single run and Nakashian and Leone followed with singles to load the bases. Carminati drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game, but it was Matuk's three-run double that gave the Knights an 11-8 advantage.
CoFrancesco entered in the ninth and allowed a Mount Saint Vincent run before closing out the save. The Mount relievers did a nice job of limiting the Dolphins down the stretch, as sophomore
Trevor Kane (Stamford, Conn.), senior
Justin Christensen (Carmel, N.Y.), and junior
Michael Klein (Elmont, N.Y.) strung together three scoreless innings. Klein was awarded the victory.
Carminati finished the opener 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Matuk went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, while Leone was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Cherubino added a pair of hits and a run scored.
The Knights travel to Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. start in New Haven, Connecticut.
