Box Score 2 FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College managed just six hits in two games as Farmingdale State College took both ends of a Skyline Conference double-header on Saturday. The Rams (12-9, 5-1 Skyline) won game one, 9-3, and game two, 10-1. The Knights drop to 6-9 overall (1-5 Skyline).
The Rams led 3-0 after five innings of game one, but the Knights got back into the game with two runs in the sixth. Senior
Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) launched an RBI triple to left field and then scored on a sacrifice fly from
Matt Cahill (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.).
The comeback would be short-lived, however, as the Rams answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and then put the game out of reach with four runs in the eighth. Senior
Tim Stauder (East Meadow, N.Y.) doubled home a run in the ninth, but it only served to make the final score, 9-3.
In game two, Farmingdale freshman Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) went the distance, allowing just one hit over seven innings while striking out four. The Knights managed just one run on an RBI single from freshman
Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the seventh.
Mount Saint Mary College returns to action on Sunday with a Skyline Conference double-header against the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The games are set for a noon start at Dutchess Stadium.
