Knights Stop Skid, Defeat Canton

Box Score

TROY, N.Y. - In a neutral site game played at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team dominated the final three quarters on its way to a 17-6 victory over SUNY Canton on Wednesday afternoon.  The Knights snapped a two-game losing streak to move to 5-5 on the year, while the Kangaroos dropped to 4-4.

Mount Saint Mary trailed by one at the end of the first quarter, but responded with nine consecutive goals, a run that stretched from the start of the second quarter to the middle of the third.  Sophomore Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) sparked the run with back-to-back goals and freshman Sebastian Cina Jr. (Colts Neck, N.J.) followed with just his second tally of the season.  Senior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) closed out the first half scoring, putting home a feed from senior Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) to make the half time score, 8-3.

Robison, Findlay, and Pullen all scored to open the third quarter, pushing the advantage to 11-3.  After SUNY Canton finally broke up the run, Mount junior Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) put home a pair of goals, both on feeds from Findlay, allowing the Knights to take a 13-4 edge to the fourth quarter.  Pullen added a pair of fourth quarter goals, while sophomore Henry Schof (Montgomery, N.Y.) and sophomore Jack Capetola (East Rockaway, N.Y.) also found the back of the net to make the final score, 17-6.

Findlay led the Knights with eight points on one goal and seven assists.  Pullen scored six times on 13 shots, while Robison tallied four goals and an assist.  O'Donnell chipped in with two goals and an assist.  Sophomore goalie Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn the victory, but the highlight of the day in net belonged to sophomore goalie Michael Mara (Rockville Centre, N.Y.).  Upon entering the game with two minutes to play, Mara quickly found himself in a man-down situation, but was able to make a stellar save on the one shot he saw during the extra man opportunity.

The Knights return to Skyline Conference action on Saturday with a trip to Farmingdale State College.  The game with the Rams is set for 1:00 p.m.
