Knights Sweep Yeshiva, Move Back to Even

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College took both ends of a Skyline Conference double-header from Yeshiva University on Wednesday afternoon.  The wins move the Knights back to .500 on the year at 13-13 overall (5-7 Skyline).

The Knights won the opener, 16-1, as they belted out 12 hits and took advantage of six Yeshiva errors.  MSMC plated eight runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third, and two more in the fourth for a 15-0 advantage.

Freshman Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance that included two runs and two RBIs.  Freshman Kevin Riveiro (Malverne, N.Y.) and junior Zach Kenny (Hicksville, N.Y.) also added a pair of hits for the Knights.  Senior Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) went 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBIs, while senior Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.) went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Senior Justin Christensen (Carmel, N.Y.) allowed just one hit and one unearned run over five innings to claim the win.  Freshman Tom Reith (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) pitched the final two innings, yielding just one walk while striking out two.

The story was similar in game two, as the Knights pounded out 16 hits and went on to a 14-1 victory.  Sophomore starting pitcher Matt Schumacher (Commack, N.Y.) went the distance, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out eight.

Sophomore Rocco Pepe (Commack, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while junior Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Kenny added two more hits to go along with two runs and an RBI, while senior Alec Seidman (Poughquag, N.Y.) came away with a pair of doubles in two trips to the plate.

Mount Saint Mary travels to face NYU-Poly on Saturday.  The games will be played at SUNY College at Old Westbury and will start at 11:00 a.m.
