Staten Island Shuts Down Mount

Box Score

FISHKILL, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College managed just six hits, four of which came in the final inning, during a 12-2 loss to the College of Staten Island in non-conference action on Tuesday.  The Knights fall to 11-13 overall, while the Dolphins bump up to 21-9.

Leading 1-0 after three, Staten Island took control with a seven-run fourth inning.  The Dolphins pounded out four run-scoring singles, all with two outs, on their way to an 8-0 advantage.  All told, Staten Island sent 12 men to the plate in the frame.

The Dolphins added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one more in the eight for a 12-0 lead.  Mount Saint Mary finally got on the board in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from senior Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.).  Freshman Silverio Santiago (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) added an RBI single in the ninth to make the final margin, 12-2.

CSI sophomore Anthony Storz (Staten Island, N.Y.) baffled the Knights for seven innings, allowing just one hit and walking two to earn the win.  Mount junior Zach Kenny (Hicksville, N.Y.) allowed eight runs over three and two-thirds and was tagged with the loss.

The Knights hope to get back on the right track with Skyline Conference games against Yeshiva University on Wednesday.  A double-header is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Purchase College in Purchase, New York.
