Mount Salvages Weekend With Sweep of Bard

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Following a pair of Skyline Conference losses to Purchase College on Saturday, Mount Saint Mary College swept Bard College on Sunday to finish the weekend at 2-2.  The Knights now stand at 11-12 overall.

In Sunday's first game, the Knights jumped out to an early lead on a run-scoring double from freshman Mike Leone (Staten Island, N.Y.).  Junior Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) added an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.  Mount Saint Mary doubled the lead in the fourth on RBI doubles from freshman Matt Cahill (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and senior Alec Seidman (Poughquag, N.Y.).  Bard got single runs in the fifth and sixth frames, but the Knights put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Leone went 3-for-3 with a run scored, Cahill went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Seidman added two hits and an RBI.  Senior Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.) completed a 2-for-4 performance with a run and an RBI.  Freshman starting pitcher Logan Kurtz (Gansevoort, N.Y.) pitched four innings to earn the win and senior Joe CoFrancesco (Hamden, Conn.) earned the save.

CoFrancesco would also earn the save in game two, giving him seven for the year.  The time, the senior closed out a 9-6 decision for the Knights, allowing junior Michael Klein (Elmont, N.Y.) to claim the win.

The Mount struck early once again, pushing across three runs in the first.  Senior Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) plated Leone with a single to left and then scored on a wild pitch.  Freshman Silverio Santiago (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) also added an RBI single in the inning.

Following two Bard runs in the first, McNoble made it 4-2 with an RBI single in the third.  Carminati and Matuk each drove in a run during a two-run fourth and senior Tim Stauder (East Meadow, N.Y.) laced a two-run double to left-center during a two-run fifth.

Matuk, Carminati, McNoble, Stauder, and junior Chris O'Connor (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) each recorded a pair of hits for the Knights.  Matuk and Stauder both came through with a pair of RBIs.

During Saturday's double-header with Purchase, Mount Saint Mary dropped the opening game, 9-4, and fell in a superbly pitched game two, 1-0.

The Knights fell into an early 5-1 hole in game one, but clawed back into the game with single runs in the third and fifth.  McNoble's single in the third allowed Carminati to score, and Cahill's single in the fifth pushed across Matuk.

The score would remain the same into the eighth, but the Panthers pulled away with a bases clearing double and carried a 9-3 edge to the late innings.  The Knights managed just one run in the eighth on their way to a 9-4 defeat.

Carminati and McNoble each finished 3-for-5 with Carminati contributing a pair of runs and McNoble a single RBI.  Matuk went 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

In game two, Mount sophomore starting pitcher Ryan Gerhart (Winfield, N.J.) was spectacular.  He allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings.  Unfortunately, the stellar effort was overshadowed by Purchase freshman Adam Brant (Hyde Park, N.Y.).  Brant tossed a no-hitter as the Panthers claimed a 1-0 victory.

The Knights host the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, April 16.  First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
