Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Mount Saint Mary College fell behind early and never recovered as Albertus Magnus College stretched away in the late innings for a 17-5 victory in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Knights drop to 8-10 overall, while the Falcons improve to 7-11.
Albertus opened the contest with two runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead. Mount senior
Alec Seidman (Poughquag, N.Y.) answered with an RBI double in the second, but the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 5-1 advantage.
Mount Saint Mary added one run in the fourth, but it came on a bases loaded double play that sucked the life out of a potential rally. Senior
Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line in the fifth, allowing freshman
James Nakashian (Massapequa, N.Y.) to score and cut the deficit to 5-3.
The Falcons would begin to stretch away in the fifth, however, and extended the lead to 9-3 with four runs. The home team added six runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to take a 17-3 advantage. The Knights got a pair of runs in the ninth on back-to-back sacrifice flies, but would get no closer.
Seidman finished 2-for-3 with the one RBI, while graduate student
Paul Cherubino (Middletown, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Senior
Joe Clarke (Maybrook, N.Y.) and freshman
Matt Cahill (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) each added a pair of hits for the Knights. Freshman starting pitcher
Kevin Riveiro (Malverne, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss.
Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Thursday with a trip to Manhattanville. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Purchase, New York.
