Box Score NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College senior
Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored three goals on Saturday, including the 100th goal of his career, but the Knights lost a non-conference game to Gwynedd-Mercy College by a final score of 18-7. The Knights drop back to 2-2 on the years, while the Griffins advance to 1-1.
The Mount jumped out to a 4-1 advantage with an impressive first quarter. Sophomore
Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 12:57 and then found Pullen for his first of the day at the 11:41 mark. Gwynedd-Mercy got on the board, but the Knights closed the quarter with goals from sophomore
David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.) and junior
Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) for the 4-1 lead.
The second quarter was a much different story, however, as the Griffins outscored the Knights, 6-0, over the next 15 minutes. The scoring barrage would continue into the third quarter as the Griffins scored the opening four goals of the second half for an 11-4 lead.
Pullen finally broke up the run when he put home his second of the day on a feed from senior
Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) at the 5:06 mark of the third. Trailing 14-6 at the start of the fourth quarter, Pullen picked up a loose ground ball in front of the cage and shoveled it into the back of the net for his third goal of the game and 100th of his career.
Pullen (three goals) matched Robison (one goal, two assists) with a team-high three points. O'Donnell was next with two points on two goals. The Knights suffered from a season-high 30 turnovers.
Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Monday with a home game against Husson University.
