Knights Hold On For Key Skyline Win

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College nearly squandered a 7-1 half time advantage, but the Knights (4-4, 1-1 Skyline) held on down the stretch for a 12-10 victory over Maritime College (3-8, 0-2 Skyline) in a key Skyline Conference contest on Wednesday evening.

Leading 7-1 at the half, Mount senior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) opened the second half scoring to push the lead to 8-1.  But the Privateers wouldn't go away and scored the next six goals, including back-to-back man-up tallies, to close to within one at the 7:25 mark of the third quarter.  Mount senior Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) broke up the run with a nifty move and an unassisted goal with 5:44 remaining in the third and junior Stephen White (Schenectady, N.Y.) followed with a well-placed shot to push the Mount's lead back to three at 10-7.

Pullen scored the opening marker of the fourth quarter, putting home a feed from Findlay with 11:23 remaining.  The Privateers still weren't ready to be done, however, and pulled to within two with consecutive goals.  Following nearly four scoreless minutes, White added an insurance goal for the Knights, pushing the advantage to 12-9.  The Privateers responded with a man-up goal at the 3:06 mark, but would get no closer.  Mount goalie Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) made several key saves over the final three minutes to preserve the win for the Knights.

Pullen finished with six goals and an assist, while Findlay and sophomore Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each contributed a goal and three assists.  White and junior Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) rounded out the Mount's scoring with two goals apiece.  Haran finished with 14 saves during a strong effort in the cage for the Knights.

The Mount returns to action with a road trip to SUNYIT on Monday, April 1.  The opening faceoff is set for 6:00 p.m. in Utica, New York.
