Mount Stumbles Against New Paltz

Box Score KINGSTON, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College showed the effects of playing a third game in three days on Monday evening in a 16-5 non-conference loss to SUNY New Paltz.  The Knights (6-4) fell behind early and never recovered as the Hawks (3-1) rolled to a double-digit victory.

The Hawks jumped out to an early start with three goals inside of the first seven minutes.  Following a scoreless drought of nine minutes, New Paltz added two more tallies to extend the advantage to 5-0.  Mount senior Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) finally put the Knights on the board with 10:49 remaining in the opening half, but it would be the only goal of the first period for the Mount.  New Paltz closed the half on an 8-0 run and led, 13-1, at the break.

Sophomore Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y.) scored the opening goal of the second half as the teams traded goals to open play.  Freshman Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) followed with back-to-back goals to get the Knights within ten (14-4), and following two New Paltz goals, scored the finaly tally of the night to make the score, 16-5.

Sophomore Lianne Valdivia (Kingston, N.Y.) led the Hawks with six points on the strength of three goals and three assists.  Junior Talia Tesler (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Carissa Citro (Miller Place, N.Y.) each added three goals goals for New Paltz, while sophomore Kelsey Healy (Central Islip, N.Y.) contributed two goals and two assists.

Scicutella scored three goals on three shots and added a pair of groundballs.  Freshman Katie McGinnis (Shelton, Conn.) and junior Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the Knights with four groundballs each.

Mount Saint Mary heads to Maritime College to continue Skyline play on Wednesday.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Throgs Neck, New York.
