Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - Hartwick College opened with the first five goals and never looked back on Thursday afternoon, defeating Mount Saint Mary College by a final score of 14-3. The Hawks move to 2-0 on the year, while the Knights drop to 0-1.
Hartwick senior Harry Hughes (Holtsville, N.Y.) tallied three goals in the opening quarter and assisted on one of two goals by junior Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) as the Hawks raced out to a 5-0 advantage.
The Knights got on the board at 11:41 of the second quarter when freshman
Steven Fabrizio (Geneva, N.Y.) found junior
Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) for the team's first goal of the season. Senior
Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) also added a second-quarter tally as the Mount trailed, 6-2, at the half.
The Hawks opened the second half with a pair of goals, but Mount sophomore
Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) put home a feed from Findlay at the 7:57 mark of the third to cut the deficit back to five at 8-3. Unfortunately, it would be as close as the Knights would get. The Hawks scored four more times in the third and added a pair of fourth-quarter tallies for the 14-3 victory.
Findlay was the only multiple point scorer for the Knights, finishing with a goal and an assist. Freshman
Mike Hargraves (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) tallied a team-high six groundballs.
For the Hawks, Hughes finished with six goals and an assist, while Schaefer racked two goals and five assists. Sophomore Roy Simmons (Fayetteville, N.Y.) found the back of the net four times for Hartwick.
The Knights return to action on Saturday with their home opener against Wells College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Kaplan Field.
