Nicole Cacioppo (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and senior
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) each scored three goals on Wednesday night as Mount Saint Mary College defeated Marywood University, 15-7, in non-conference action. The Knights move to 2-0 on the young season.
Mount Saint Mary never trailed in the contest and broke open a 3-3 game with a four-goal spurt in the final ten minutes of the first half. A goal by freshman
Kacie Mitterando (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) at the 3:00 mark gave the Knights a 7-3 advantage and they would lead, 7-4, at the half.
Cacioppo sparked a 4-0 run to start the second half as the Knights opened up an 11-4 edge. Spadaro iced the game with a pair of late tallies, sending the Mount to the 15-7 victory.
In addition to the three goals each from Cacioppo and Spadaro, junior
Nicole Palmieri (Elwood, N.Y.) added two goals and an assist, while sophomore
Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y.) tallied a goal and two assists. Freshman goalie
Deirdre Ray (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) continued to impress, making 12 saves for the win.
For Marywood, junior Diana D'Achille (Denville, N.J.) scored three goals, while junior Sarah Caughy (Whippany, N.J.) totaled two goals and an assist. Junior goalie Leigha Dolcemascolo (Milford, Pa.) tallied 16 saves.
The Knights will play at Drew University on March 2. The game is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
