Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) recorded seven blocked shots to set a new season record on Sunday, as the Knights defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 65-49. The Mount improved to 16-7 overall (12-4 Skyline), while the Dolphins fell to 6-17 (4-12 Skyline).
The Knights closed the opening half on a 7-2 run to take a 32-24 advantage to the locker room. Junior
Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) recorded 12 first-half points, while Henain totaled eight points, nine rebounds, and five blocks in the opening 20 minutes.
With the Mount still leading comfortable in the second, Mount Saint Vincent closed to within six with an 8-0 run. A bucket from senior Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at the 8:58 mark made it 45-39, Knights.
Junior
Anthony Cipriano (Staten Island, N.Y.) was quick to answer, draining a triple on the ensuing possession. His three-pointer sparked a 10-0 run for the Knights and when junior
Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper with 5:56 remaining, the Knights led, 55-39. Mount Saint Vincent would get no closer than 14 for the rest of the way.
Pisciotta led the Knights with 19 points and nine rebounds, but it was Henain who stole the show with his record-setting performance. The junior finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and seven blocks, running his total to 58 blocks for the season. Henain broke the previous record of 55, set by Kenny Lane during the 2003-04 season.
Cunningham led the Dolphins with 15 points and seven rebounds. Mount Saint Vincent struggled from the field, hitting at a clip of just 31.0-percent.
The Knights travel to Maritime College on Tuesday for a date with the Privateers. The tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
