NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (14-4-0, 8-0-0 Skyline) did not allow a single goal against a Skyline Conference opponent during the regular season, leading to a perfect conference record that earned the Knights the regular-season crown and the top seed in the Skyline Conference Championships. Tonight, the Knights host No.4-seed The College at Old Westbury (13-7-0, 5-3-0 Skyline) in the conference semifinals.
Old Westbury defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday to earn its place in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championships.
In their regular season matchup, the Knights took home a 1-0 victory over the Panthers in a hard fought battle that took place on the campus of the New York Institute of Technology. Sophomore forward
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was the difference maker, scoring the lone goal at the 40:02 mark. Senior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made five saves en route to the shutout victory.
Robe was named the Skyline Women's Soccer Player of the Year on Tuesday and was also named to the All-Skyline First Team, both for the second year in a row. Robe shares the league lead with 24 goals and ranks third in the conference with 50 points. She has tallied eight game-winning goals while earning four Skyline Player of the Week honors and three ECAC Metro Region Player of the Week selections this season.
Senior defender
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) was named Skyline Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the All-Conference First Team for the fourth consecutive year. She heads a back line that, combined with the strong play of Mancini, did not allow a single goal to a Skyline opponent during the regular season. Mancini also received First-Team All-Skyline honors.
The Panthers are led by JoAnna Kettell, who holds a slight edge over Robe with 51 points on the season with 20 goals and 11 assists. Stephanie Maybie has also been a big contributer with 43 points, including 18 goals and seven assists.
Caitlin Thomas holds down the fort for the Panthers, entering tonight's matchup with a 13-7-0 overall record. Her 91 saves have led to a .752 save percentage, and she hold a 1.52 goals-against average.
The Knights enter the semifinal matchup with an 8-1-0 record at Kaplan Field, including a perfect 5-0-0 against Skyline opponents. Old Westbury is 4-4 on the road, including a 2-1 away record against Skyline teams.
Tonight's matchup is set to kick off under the lights at 7 p.m.
