Women’s Soccer Trounces NYU-Poly, 12-0, on Youth Soccer Day

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (7-4-0, 3-0-0 Skyline) kept their Skyline Conference hot streak going on Saturday, as the Knights trounced the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (2-7-0, 0-3-0 Skyline), 12-0, on Youth Soccer Day at Kaplan Field.

Youth soccer players from the New Windsor Recreational Soccer League joined the women's soccer teams for pregame introductions, and then got a chance to play on the turf field at halftime.

In a game featuring 12 Knight goals, sophomore forward Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the way with four goals and an assist for a nine-point afternoon. Freshman defender Elizabeth Cipriano (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up an impressive six points off the bench with her first career hat trick. Senior defender Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.), junior midfielder Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Danielle Sedlacek (Highland, N.Y.) each added a goal on the afternoon. In addition, sophomore goalkeeper Abigail McQuillen (Greenville, N.Y.), while playing forward in the second half, scored her first career goal.

Senior goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up the win despite playing just 2:46 on the afternoon. McQuillen closed out the first half without giving up a goal and stopping one shot. DiSilvio took over at goalkeeper in the second half, but did not face any shots.

The Mount dominated the shooting margin in the game, firing off 52 shots (27 SOG) to just one for the Fighting Blue Jays. The Knights also held a 7-0 corner kick advantage.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when they play host to non-conference opponent King's College (Pa.). The contest is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. from Kaplan Field.
