Knights Defeat CCNY In Non-Conference Tilt

FISHKILL, N.Y. – In the first game back from a long holiday weekend, the Mount Saint Mary College baseball team defeated the City College of New York in non-conference action by a final score of 12-2.  The Knights improve to 15-10 with the victory.

After conceding a run in the top of the first, Mount Saint Mary scratched out single runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth frames to lead, 4-1.  Sophomore Chris Chieffo (Waterbury, Conn.) had a sac fly in the second and senior John Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) drove home a run with a single in the third.  In the fourth, sophomore Anthony D'Agostino (Wallington, N.J.) collected a sac fly and in the fifth, junior Michael Morelli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) launched a run-scoring double to the wall in center field.

The Knights missed a chance to blow open the game in the sixth.  With the bases loaded and two outs, CCNY freshman relief pitcher Max Mueller (Brooklyn, N.Y.) entered the game and got sophomore Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.) to line out to left, ending the threat.

With the bases loaded once again in the seventh, junior Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.) came through with a clutch hit.  His groundball through the left side of the infield plated a pair of runners and gave the Knights a 6-1 advantage.  CCNY got a run in the top of the eighth, but the Mount added six more runs in the bottom of the inning to force a run-rule conclusion at 12-2.

Mount junior starting pitcher Justin Christensen (Carmel, N.Y.) went the distance for a complete game victory.  He allowed just eight hits and one earned run.

Thomas McNoble and Conroy each finished with four hits to lead the way for the Knights.  McNoble was 4-for-5 with a run and three RBIs, while Conroy was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Up next for the Knights is a Skyline Conference double-header with Maritime College.  The games are scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start on Tuesday at Dutchess Stadium.
