FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Farmingdale State College senior Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) limited Mount Saint Mary College to four hits over 6.2 innings as the Rams cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Knights in game one of the double-elimination Skyline Conference tournament.
Freshman
Alex Velardi (Branford, Conn.) led off the game with a single for the Knights and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. But senior
John Conroy (Middletown, N.Y.) grounded out and junior
Michael Morelli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) struck out to end the early threat.
Following a two-out single from junior
Thomas McNoble (Breezy Point, N.Y.) in the second, the Knights had runners at first and second. Sophomore
Anthony D'Agostino (Wallington, N.J.) grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning through, keeping the game scoreless.
From there, the Rams scored in each of the five innings. With two in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth, Farmingdale led 9-0 after six.
After a Conroy single in the sixth, the Knights would not record another baserunner as the Rams set down the final 10 MSMC hitters.
Mount Saint Mary will face St. Joseph's College in an elimination game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Farmingdale.
