Mount Doubles Up Mount Saint Vincent

YONKERS, N.Y.  -  The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team posted a its fourth Skyline Conference win with a 16-8 win over the College on Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, the Knights improve to 7-9 overall and an even 4-4 in Skyline play. The Dolphins drop to 4-9 on the season and 3-6 in th conference. 

Just 50 seconds into the contest, the Knights took a 1-0 lead, as sophomore Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal. The Dolphins responded with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with just under ten minutes elapsed. 

Over the next six minutes, the Knights outscored the Dolphins, 5-1, led by three goals from  junior Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.). Mount Saint Vincent freshman Melina Mezzanota (Shirley, N.Y.) brought the Dolphins to within one, 6-5, with consecutive free position goals. Mount freshman Danielle Krupka (King's Park, N.Y.) added her second of the day with just eight seconds remaining in the first to put the Knights up by two, 7-5. 

The Knights opened up the second half on a 4-0 run, with freshman Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y.) accounting for the first two goals. A free position goal by Mount Saint Vincent freshman Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) halted the run and brought the Dolphins to within five, 11-6. 

Krupka added two more goals, as the Knights followed with a 4-0 run to jump ahead by nine, 15-6. Fraser and senior Julia Caro (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) countered with two goals for the Dolphins; however Palmieri added her second of the day with 3:51 on the clock to close out the scoring and cap the game at 16-8. 

Spadaro and Krupka each tallied four goals, while Igdeler also added four points (3G, 1A). Palmieri added two goals of three shots and senior Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) recorded one goal and two assists. Freshman goalie Lauren Beltrami (Islip, N.Y.) made 12 saves to preserve the win.

Fraser led the Dolphins with a hat trick, while Mezzanotte added two goals. Junior goalkeeper Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) made nine saves in 43 minutes of play.
