Knights Stumble at St. Joseph's

PATCHOGUE, N.Y.  –  Trailing 8-2 at the half, the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team could not catch up and lost to St. Joseph's College, 13-7, in a Skyline Conference contest. The Knights drop to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in Skyline play, while in their inagural season the Golden Eagles improve to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the Skyline.

The Mount quickly found themselves in a 6-0 hole, as the Golden Eagles scored the first six goals of the contest in the opening nine minutes of play. Mount freshman Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y.) finished off a feed from sophomore Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) to get the Knights on the board at the 16:45 mark.

Sophomore Amanda Giarrizzo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) converted a free position shot to account for the Mount's second goal of the half. The Mount was outshot 17-7 in the first half and the Golden Eagles held an 8-2 lead at the break.

Trailing by seven, 9-2, with under twenty minutes to play, Mount freshman Danielle Krupka (King's Park, N.Y.) buried a free position shot to cut the deficit to six. The Golden Eagles responded with three consecutive goals that gave them their largest lead of the night, 12-3.

An unassisted tally by Giarrizzo at the 11:39 mark ignited a 4-0 run for the night. Giarrizzo added two during the run, while junior Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Nicole Cacioppo (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each tallied goals. St. Joseph's freshman Lisa Terry (Manorville, N.Y.) finished off a free position shot with less than a minute on the clock to account for the final score, 13-7.

Giarrizzo added a hat trick, finishing all three shots that were placed on goal. Single goals by Spadaro, Krupka, Igdeler and Cacioppo accounted for the Knights' other tallies. Freshman goalie Lauren Beltrami (Islip, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the loss.

Terry led all scorers with four points (3G,1A), while teammates Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y.) and Karalyn Tetelman (Holbrook, N.Y.) followed with two goals each. Goalie Erin O'Connor (Nesconset, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves.

In the final game of a three game road stretch, the Knights will travel to Wells College on Wednesday, April 4. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
