Mount Stumbles at Maritime, 22-9

THROGGS NECK, N.Y.  –  On Saturday afternoon, the Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team dropped a 22-9 decision to Maritime College. With the loss, the Knights fall to an even 7-7 overall and 1-3 in Skyline play. The Privateers earn their third win of the season and now stand 2-2 in the conference.

The Knights jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead, as freshman Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) netted a feed from classmate David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.) less than two minutes into the first quarter. Maritime freshman Charles Kuhn (North Babylon, N.Y.) added the next two goals of the game to put the Privateers up, 2-1, before a goal by Mount freshman CJ Cardo (Merrick, N.Y.) tied things up, 2-2, with 5:14 on the clock. Maritime erupted for a 6-0 run in the final four and a half minutes of the first quarter to take a commanding 8-2 lead after one.

Trailing 9-2 in the second, Mount junior Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) found the back of the net to halt the Privateers 7-0 run. Maritime responded with three goals in a one minute span to give themselves a nine goal lead, 12-3. Mount sophomore Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) buried a pass from junior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) with 4:31 on the clock to make it an eight goal game at halftime.

Turnovers and limited offensive opportunities resulted in a scoreless third quarter for the Knights, while the Privateers extended their lead to fourteen, 18-4, with a six goal run. Mount sophomore Logan Sollami (Cornwall, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal just three minutes into the fourth quarter to give the Knights' their fifth goal. O'Donnell added his second and third of the game in the next three minutes to make it a twelve goal game with nine minutes remaining.

With 4:05 on the clock, Robison converted a man-up opportunity, burying a feed from Findlay. Two minutes later and with roles reversed, Findlay scored the Knights' ninth and final goal of the game. Maritime added two more goals in the closing two minutes and the Knights fell by a score of 22-9.

Findlay led the Knights with two goals and four assists, while O'Donnell completed a hat trick. Robison finished with three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Shawn Cobstill (Oneonta, N.Y.) made five saves in net before giving way to freshman Conor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) who made six saves.

Kuhn led all players with four goals and three assists. Sophomore James D'Amico (Floral Park, N.Y.) and classmate Brennen Siele (Manorville, N.Y.) tallied three goals and one assist each. Three goalies saw action for the Privateers, but junior Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y.) made 14 saves to earn the win.

  Up next, the Knights will host Kean University on Wednesday, April 18 in their final home game. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a women's game.
