FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Placing just 12 shots on goal in the game, the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team struggled to score and dropped a 20-2 decision to Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference contest. With the loss the Knights drop to 3-6 on the season and 1-2 in the Skyline, while the Rams improve to 7-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the conference.
Farmingdale State College senior Krystin Shand (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal just 1:28 in and the Rams added four more to hold the 5-0 lead midway through the first period. The Knights broke the shutout with 13:56 remaining in the half, on a goal by sophomore attack Amanda Giarrizzo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) to make it 5-1.
Mount senior Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) added the Knights' second of the game with 4:44 remaining in the first, but Farmingdale held the 8-2 lead at the break.After the break, the Rams scored 12 unanswered goals as they raced away with an 18 point margin, 20-2.
Cashin and Giarrizzo accounted for the Knights' two goals.Mount freshman Nicole Cacioppo (Glen Cove, N.Y.)led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Beltrami (Islip, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the loss.
Shand led all scorers with an eleven point performance, coming off of four goals and seven assists. Freshman midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) grabbed nine draw controls, while adding two goals, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Freshman attack Nicole Marzocca (West Babylon, N.Y.) finished with four goals and two assists. Senior goalie Courtney Cook (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the win in net, tallying 10 saves.
The Knights will look to rebound quickly, as they travel to St. Joseph's College on Monday, April 2. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
