NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Nine members of the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team scored, as the Mount cruised to a 20-3 win over Green Mountain College on Monday night. The Knights move to 2-5 on the year, while the Eagles drop to 0-2.
The Knights scored the first six goals of the game, all of which came in the opening teen minutes of play. Mount junior
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) accounted for three goals during the run, while sophomores Erica Massman (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) combined for the other three.
Green Mountain sophomore Johanna Douglas (Essex, Conn.) netted an unassisted tally with 19:22 on the clock to get the Eagles on the board, 6-1. The Knights closed out the first half on a 3-0 run and held a commanding 13-3 lead at the break.
Strong play in transition, limited the Eagles to just two shots in the second half. Palmieri and Spadaro found the back of the net once and twice, respectively in the second stanza. Mount junior
Kate Wynne (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded her first points of the season, adding a goal and an assist in the closing half. The Knights kept the Eagles off the board, while adding seven goals to give them the final score, 20-3.
Spadaro led all scorers with six goals, coming off of just seven shots, while freshman
Danielle Krupka (Kings Park, N.Y.) recorded a career high four points (3G,1A). Palmieri, Massmann, sophomore
Amanda Giarrizzo (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and senior
Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) tallied two goals each. Defensively, junior
Erin Murray (Floral Park, N.Y.) caused a team-high three turnovers and freshman goalkeeper
Lauren Beltrami (Islip, N.Y.) recorded three saves to earn her second win.
Green Mountain College was led by Douglas' two goals and eight draw controls. Junior Bryanna Astor (Milltown, N.J.) recorded the only other goal for the Eagles. Sophomore goalie Virginia Anderson (Silver Spring, M.D.) made seven saves in net.
The Knights return to Skyline Conference action on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., as they host the Sage Colleges.
