Knights Lose Opener to Brockport

CHESTER, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team opened its season with a 2-1 loss to the College at Brockport on Sunday at The Rock Sports Park in Chester.  The Eagles improved to 3-0 with the win.

Scoreless through three, Brockport broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth.  With one out, sophomore Kyle Tracy (Plainview, N.Y.) singled and came around to score on a triple from sophomore Pete Wilson (Rochester, N.Y.).  Wilson scored later in the inning when sophomore Jamie Boronczyk (Syracuse, N.Y.) grounded to third.

The Knights answered with one run in the fifth.  Sophomore Chris Chieffo (Waterbury, Conn.) walked to leadoff the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice, then moved to third on single from freshman Anthony Licata (Franklin Square, N.Y.).  The next batter, sophomore Vinnie Carminati (Huntington, N.Y.), singled to drive home the first run of the year for the Mount.

Mount Saint Mary would leave runners on base in each of the next three innings and then went quietly in the ninth as Brockport senior James Williamson (Mexico, N.Y.) retired the side in order to claim the save.

Brockport senior Mark Ciccotti (Bressport, N.Y.) worked the first six innings for the Eagles, allowing just the one run on seven hits to claim the win.  Mount senior Dan McCrea (Hicksville, N.Y.) took the loss for the Knights, yielding two runs on three hits.  Freshman David Hobbs (East Rockaway, N.Y.) pitched four scoreless innings in relief, giving up just one hit.

Senior Max Tecce (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and junior Michael Morelli (Washingtonville, N.Y.) each recorded a pair of hits for the Mount.  Both players finished 2-for-4.

The Knights head to Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York for three games next weekend.  They'll play Oswego State on Friday, Ithaca on Saturday, and Southern Maine on Sunday.
