Ramapo Tops Knights

RAMAPO, N.J. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference game to Ramapo College by a score of 15-9. The Knights are still seeking their first Skyline win of the year and stand at 0-5 in conference play and 1-9 overall. The Roadrunners improve to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in Skyline play.

The Knights scored three consecutive goals to open the game and take a 3-0 lead just 4:45 into the half. Freshman Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) beat her defender on the crease and scored the first goal of the game at the 1:42 mark. Mount sophomore Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) tacked on another goal less than a minute later and junior Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) found the back of the net at the 4:45 mark to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Ramapo's first goal came with 14:14 remaining and ignited a 3-0 run by the Roadrunners. Freshman Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) put the Knights back on top (4-3) at the 27:22 mark and Spadaro netted her second of the game shortly after to give the Knights a 5-2 lead. Ramapo went on to score two goals in the final minute and a half of the first half to tie the score at 5-5 going into halftime.

The Roadrunners exploded for three straight goals to begin the second half and take an 8-5 lead over the Mount. Spadaro scored her third of the game off an assist from Massmann just 4:28 into the second half to get the Knights back on the board. Spadaro converted a free-position attempt with more than twenty minutes left in the game to pull the Mount to within one (8-7). Five quick unanswered goals by Ramapo put the game out of reach for the Knights (13-7). Twice Cashin scored off of free-position shots to bring the Knights to within five, but the Knights would not get any closer.

Spadaro scored a team-high four goals and Cashin chipped in with a hat trick. The Knights received single goals from Palmieri and Massmann. Freshman Mary Greenlese (Dover Plains, N.Y.) went the distance in cage and tallied six saves.

The Knights will take on Skyline opponent Bard on Wednesday night. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
