NEWBURGH, N.Y.-The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team fell by a score of 11-4 to visiting Farmingdale State College. With the loss the Mount drops to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in Skyline play. The Rams improve to 5-4 with the win and remain unbeaten at 4-0 in Skyline play.
A goal by Carly Schneider gave the Rams at 1-0 advantage with a little over three minutes elapsed in the game. Freshman
Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) converted a free position shot at the 20:35 mark to even the score at 1-1. The Rams would go on to score four consecutive goals as they raced out to a 5-1 lead. With 9:22 left in the half, Mount sophomore
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) pushed the ball in transition and found classmate
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) who then netted a well-placed shot to get the Knights back on the board. Spadaro netted an unassisted tally with 2:28 remaining in the half to move the Knights to within three (6-3). Emily Williams and the Rams answered back with a goal and the Rams possessed a 7-3 lead at the half.
Both teams combined for only five goals in the second half of play and unfortunately the Knights only found the back of the net once. Once again it was Spadaro scoring for the Mount. Spadaro converted a feed from freshman
Mikaely Whitehouse (Columbia, Conn.) with 21:05 left in game to decrease the Rams' lead to five (9-4). The Mount would not score in the final minutes of the half and two additional Farmingdale goals sealed the win for the Rams.
Spadaro finished the game with a hat trick and shot a perfect 3-3. Massmann chipped in with one goal, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Cranwell and Whitehouse each dished out an assist in the loss.
The Knights are seeking their first Skyline Conference win of the season as they travel to Ramapo College on Saturday, April 9. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
