Montclair Tops Mount

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team fell to Montclair State University in a Skyline Conference contest by a score of 15-2. The loss drops the Knights to 1-7 on the season and 0-3 in Skyline play. The Red Hawks improve to 6-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Skyline play.

Both teams struggled to find the back of the net early in the game and it took nearly 12 minutes for the first goal to be scored. Mount sophomore Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) converted a feed from classmate Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) at the 18:47 mark to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Red Hawk Kayla Henderson scored three goals in the remaining minutes of the first half and the Red Hawks ended the half with an 8-0 run.

A 6-0 run to start the second half extended Montclair's lead to 14-1 with just under six minutes to play. Cranwell netted an unassisted goal with 3:02 left in the game to account for the Knights' second goal.

Cranwell finished the game with two goals, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) chipped in with three draw controls and sophomore Erin Murray (Floral Park, N.Y.) scooped up a game-high five groundballs. Freshman Mary Greenlese (Dover Plains, N.Y.) went the distance in goal and recorded six saves.

The Knights seek their first Skyline Conference win as they host Farmingdale State College on Thursday, April 7. The game will start at 7:00 p.m.
