FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team defeated Mount Saint Mary College, 16-3, in the Skyline Conference quarterfinal round of the playoffs this afternoon. The Rams (8-7) will travel to second-seeded Ramapo for the semifinals on Thursday, April 28, while the Knights finish their season at 4-10.
Farmingdale sophomore Carly Schneider (Merrick, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal 2:25 into the contest to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Jordyn Hasemann (Farmingdale, N.Y.) increased the Rams' lead to 2-0, before sophomore midfielder Emily Williams (Centerport, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals, extending Farmingdale's advantage to 4-0. Senior attack Justine Rothar (Levittown, N.Y.) netted two goals in 1:57 as the Rams opened up a 6-0 lead with 8:02 remaining before halftime. Sophomore defender Jillian Pironti (Seaford, N.Y.) scored the final goal of the first half on a free position shot as Farmingdale State took a 7-0 edge into the break.
The Rams increased their lead to 12-0 before Mount freshman
Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) found the mark with a free position shot at the 18:50 mark to put the Knights on the board. Farmingdale would go on to outscore the Knights 4-2 en route to a 16-3 quarterfinal victory.
Freshman
Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) and sophomore
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) would also notch goals for the Knights down the stretch. Massmann nabbed a team-high three draw controls for the Mount.
Williams scored a game-high six goals, had six draw controls and caused four turnovers, while Schneider tallied three goals and two assists for five points. Rothar scored two goals and had two assists for four points.
The upcoming semifinal round game at #2 Ramapo on Thursday, April 28th is at a time still to be determined.
