Knights Best Bard for First Skyline Win

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team topped Bard College by a score of 11-4 in a critical Skyline Conference match-up. The win keeps the Mount in the play-off hunt and moves the Knights to 2-9 on the season and 1-5 in Skyline play. Bard drops to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in Skyline play with the loss.

Three quick goals in the opening five minutes of play got the Knights out to an early lead that they would maintain for the entire game. Junior Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) netted an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game to get the Knights on the board. Sophomore Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) scored the next two goals for the Mount at the 26:22 and 25:46 marks respectively. The Mount failed to score over the next ten minutes of the half, until sophomore Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) buried a feed from Cashin at the 14:25 mark to increase the lead to 4-0. Mount freshman Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) converted a free-position shot with just under ten minutes remaining in the half to give the Knights a 5-0 lead. Bard freshman Stephanie LaMont scored off a free-position shot to get the Raptors on the board. Palmieri converted another free-position attempt with just over a minute to play in the first half to extend the Knights' lead to 6-1.

The Raptors opened the second half with two consecutive goals and brought the game to within three goals (6-3). A 5-0 run by the Mount in the final fifteen minutes of play put the game out of reach for the Raptors. Palmieri scored her third and fourth goals of the game during the run and the Knights received single goals from Cashin, Spadaro and Cranwell. LaMont scored the final goal of the game to finalize the 11-4 score.

Palmieri scored a game-high four goals in addition to grabbing a game-high five draw controls. Cranwell recorded three goals, one assist and three draw controls. Cashin added two goals and an assist and Spadaro chipped in with two goals and two caused turnovers. Freshman Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied four draw controls. Mount freshman Mary Greenlese (Dover Plains, N.Y.) played the majority of the game in net and recorded four saves. Greenlese was relieved by junior Emily Folino (Staten Island, N.Y.) who made two saves.

The Knights will travel to Maritime on Saturday, April 16 for a Skyline Conference match-up. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
