NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior
Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored three times, but the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team fell to New Paltz, 18-6, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks remain unbeaten at 3-0, while the Knights stay winless at 0-4.
New Paltz was quick to jump on the Knights, scoring seven goals in the first thirteen minutes. Freshman
Erica Massmann (West Babylon, N.Y.) finally got the Mount on the board with an unassisted tally at the 16:44 mark, but New Paltz junior Samantha DelGaudio (Northport, N.Y.) answered with three consecutive goals to give the Hawks a 10-1 advantage. Mount sophomore
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) and Cashin would add first half goals for the Knights, but they trailed 14-3 at the half.
Cashin added two more goals in the second half and freshman
Nicole Palmieri (East Northport, N.Y.) also found the back of the net to make the final score, 18-6.
Freshman
Molly Bauer (Levittown, N.Y.) led the team with three caused turnovers and also tied for a team high with three groundballs. Sophomore
Katie Forrest (Hampden, Mass.) and sophomore
Kate Wynne (Franklin Square, N.Y.) each recorded three groundballs as well. Palmieri recorded a team-best four draw controls.
DelGaudio led the Hawks with five goals and a pair of assists, while sophomore Brittany Hunt (Saugerties, N.Y.) and junior Julia Donato (Fayetteville, N.Y.) each added three goals. Donato led the team with five groundballs.
The Knights will seek their first win of the season as they open Skyline Conference play on Saturday. Mount Saint Mary hosts Mount Saint Vincent at 3:00 p.m. on Kaplan Field.
