NEWBURGH, N.Y. - While managing just three hits, the Mount Saint Mary College baseball team fell to SUNY New Paltz in non-conference action on Thursday, 12-2. The Knights dropped to 3-16 overall, while the Hakws moved to 13-6.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, the Knights tied the game with a pair of runs in the top half of the frame. Freshman
Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single and then junior
Billy Casey (Marlboro, N.Y.) drew a walk. Prescia came around to score when sophomore
Brian McNoble (Lynbrook, N.Y.) reached on an error. Casey scored later in the inning when freshman
Mike Moosbrugger (Sound Beach, N.Y.) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.
Unfortunately for the Knights, the Hawks hung up crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth innings. New Paltz went for four runs in the fifth, using a two-run single by senior Clinton Boettcher (Hyde Park, N.Y.) to stretch their lead to 4-2. In the sixth inning, senior Joel Judson (Dover, N.Y.) rapped a two-run single and then Boettcher roped a two-run double to stake the Hawks to a 10-2 advantage.
Sophomore
Carl Henchey (Coxsackie, N.Y.) was hung with the loss for the Knights, while junior Brett Harrison (Merrick, N.Y.) collected the victory for the Hawks.
Prescia led the Knights with a 1-for-3 performance. Freshman
Michael Matuk (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and freshman
Paul Cherubino (Middletown, N.Y.) recorded the only other hits for the Knights.
Mount Saint Mary returns to Skyline Conference action this weekend with a double-header at Old Westbury. The games are scheduled for a noon start on Sunday, April 11.
