NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) scored six times and freshman
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) added five goals as Mount Saint Mary College defeated Maritime College, 13-3. With the victory, the Knights improved to 5-8 overall (3-5 Skyline) and qualified for the Skyline Conference playoffs.
Maritime opened the scoring with a free position conversion at the 26:40 mark, but from there, it was all Mount Saint Mary. Cranwell found the back of the net on a free position attempt of her own and then Spadaro gave the Knights the lead on an assist from junior
Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.). The Mount rolled to a 9-1 advantage at the half, as Cranwell and Spadaro each tallied four first-stanza goals.
Out of the gates in the second half, Spadaro and Cashin continued the run to make it eleven unanswered goals. Maritime sophomore Catherine Brady (Holbrook N.Y.) finally answered for the Privateers with 13:56 remaining.
Mount sophomore
Emily Folino (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded five saves to earn the victory for the Knights.
Cranwell added five draw controls, four groundballs, and four caused turnovers. Cashin scored twice and recorded four groundballs to go along with two caused turnovers.
Mount Saint Mary will head to Farmingdale for the opening round of the Skyline Conference tournament. The quarterfinal will be played on Tuesday, April 27.
