NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) tallied three goals as Mount Saint Mary College lost a non-conference game to New Paltz on Saturday, 16-8. The Knights lost their second straight to fall to 4-6 overall, while the Hawks snapped a six game losing streak to improve to 2-7.
After trading goals to open the game, New Paltz scored the next seven goals to seize an 8-1 advantage. Freshman Julianne Rehain (Suffern, N.Y.), sophomore Samantha DelGaudio (Northport, N.Y.), and junior Bridgitte Hooker (Glen Falls, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals during the run.
Cranwell finally stopped the streak with an unassisted goal at the 8:14 mark and freshman
Catherine Conde (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) followed up at the 4:55 mark to make the score 8-3. Rehain and DelGaudio would score again before the half, however, giving the Hawks a 10-3 advantage at the break.
New Paltz outscored the Knights in the second half, 6-5, to close the door on a 16-8 victory. Mount Saint Mary was just 2-for-9 on free position shots in the second half and finished the game 2-for-11.
DelGaudio led all scorers with five goals and two assists. Rehain added four goals, while freshman Erin Tornatore (Glen Cove, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and two assists.
For the Knights, Cranwell found the back of the net three times on nine shots. Junior
Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and freshman
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) each added a pair of goals.
Up next for the Mount is another home game, this time with Skyline Conference foe, Ramapo College. The contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20.
