BRONX, N.Y. – Despite four goals each from junior
Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and freshman
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team lost to the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights tumbled to 3-4 overall (2-3 Skyline), while the Dolphins bumped up to 3-4 overall (3-2 Skyline).
Cashin opened up the scoring with a free position shot, but the lead would be short lived. The Dolphins would answer with seven of the next eight goals to lead 7-2 with 17:25 remaining in the first half. Cashin closed the first half scoring with a goal at the 4:14 mark, making the score at the break, 12-4.
The Knights wouldn't go away just yet, though, and back-to-back goals by freshman
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) pulled the Mount to within three goals at 14-11. Unfortunately, Spadaro's goals would be the last of the night for Mount Saint Mary. Mount Saint Vincent closed the game on an 8-0 run to take a 22-11 decision.
Cashin led the way for the Mount with four goals, an assist, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Cranwell finished with four goals, four groundballs, and three draw controls. Spadaro chipped in with a pair of goals and sophomore
Kate Wynne (Franklin Square, N.Y.) also got on the board with a goal.
Senior Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with seven goals and four assists. She also nabbed seven draw controls. Junior Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) added five tallies, while junior Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) chipped in with four goals.
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a home date with SUNY New Paltz. The Knights will take on the Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
