NEWBURGH, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference double-header on Saturday, Farmingdale State College swept Mount Saint Mary College in games held at New Paltz. The Rams (10-11, 6-0 Skyline) won the first game, 9-2, and the second game, 11-2, to send the Knights (2-4 Skyline) to 2-12 overall.
In game one, the Knights scored first as junior
Billy Casey (Marlboro, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning. It would be all downhill from there, however, as the Rams replied with a run in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the sixth.
Farmingdale continued their scoring spree into the seventh inning with another pair of runs. Senior Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y.) singled home a run and then scored later in the inning. The Rams would tack on single runs in the eighth and ninth, carrying a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
Senior
Rich DeRosa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) doubled home a run in the ninth to make the final score, 9-2. DeRosa finished 2-for-4 and joined junior
Louis Peisel (Brewster, N.Y.) and freshman
Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) with two hits.
Farmingdale senior Zak Nersesian (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) finished 3-for-5 with a run scored and a run batted in. Senior Ian Solomon (Northport, N.Y.) worked six innings, allowing just five hits and one run, to collect the victory.
In game two, the Rams jumped out to a five-run lead with multiple runs in innings two and four. They closed out the game with five runs in the seventh inning to take the nightcap, 11-2.
Yera and Nersesian each finished with three hits for the Rams. Sophomore Ryan McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y.) launched a two-run homer in the seventh and finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
Sophomore Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) went the distance on the mound to earn the win. He allowed just five hits across the seven innings and struck out seven.
For the Mount, Peisel drove home another run with a sac fly and DeRosa smacked an RBI single in the fifth inning. Sophomore pitcher
Matthew Senzamici (West Babylon, N.Y.) took the loss.
Mount Saint Mary continues their Skyline Conference schedule tomorrow with a double-header against Mount Saint Vincent. The twinbill is scheduled to start at noon.
