NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College was outshot by Kean University, 37-22, and that statistic was reflected in the end result as the Knights fell to the Cougars in Skyline Conference action, 17-6. The loss drops the Mount to 2-3 overall (1-1 Skyline), while bumping Kean up to 2-4 (1-0 Skyline).
The Cougars jumped out to a two-goal advantage, but it was Mount Saint Mary freshman
Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.) who scored an unassisted goal at 24:46 to cut the deficit in half. Leading 5-4 later in the first half, Kean tallied three consecutive goals and senior Chelsea Davis (Livingston, N.J.) made the score 8-4 with 4:41 to play. Spadaro responded with a pair of goals to make the half time score, 8-6.
In the second, the contest became one-sided as Kean scored nine times on 19 shots, while holding the Mount scoreless and limiting them to just seven shots. Davis and junior Amanda South (Fairless Hills, Pa.) each netted three second half goals to lead the Cougars.
Spadaro led the Knights with three goals on nine shots. Freshman
Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) found the back of the net twice and was also credited with one assist. Sophomore
Emily Folino (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves.
For the Cougars, Davis finished with a game-high six goals to go along with one assist. South scored four times on six shots and freshman Lyndsey Cannon (Derlan, N.J.) finished with six points (three goals, three assists).
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is another Skyline Conference foe in the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The game with the Dolphins is scheduled for Saturday, March 27 in Riverdale, New York.
