Mount Blasts Bard in Skyline Opener

KINGSTON, N.Y. – Behind seven goals from freshman Kaileen Spadaro (Islip, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's lacrosse team defeated Bard College, 16-6, in the Skyline Conference opener for both teams. The Knights bumped to 2-1 overall, while the Raptors dropped to 0-1.

Mount Saint Mary opened up the game on a 4-1 run, with Spadaro netting goals at the 28:35 mark and the 24:48 mark. The Knights continued to extend their lead and led 9-4 with 9:23 remaining in the first half. Spadaro would put the game completely out of reach with four consecutive goals, running the Mount's advantage to 13-4.

With the score 13-6 at the half, the Knights would score three times while blanking Bard in the final 30 minutes.

Spadaro finished with seven goals and an assist to lead the Mount. Freshman Catherine Conde (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) scored three times, while junior Ellen Cashin (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Sharon Cranwell (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) each tallied a pair of goals. Freshman Katie Gerdts (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Dina Nicastro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) also found their way onto the score sheet with a goal each.

Cashin led the way with six draw controls, while Cranwell gobbled up a team-high seven groundballs. Sophomore Kate Wynne (Franklin Square, N.Y.) collected six groundballs and also recorded her first career point with an assist on Spadaro's sixth goal of the night.

Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Friday, March 20 as they'll trek to Wells College. The game is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start in Aurora, New York.
