MARLBORO, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman
Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) scored five times to lead the Knights to a 12-5 victory over Bard College, the first win in program history. Mount Saint Mary moved to 1-2 on the season, while the Raptors dropped to 0-3.
Findlay opened the scoring at 11:04 of the first quarter, finishing off a feed from senior
Joe Costello (Geneva, N.Y.). Costello doubled the lead at the 8:46 mark, netting an unassisted goal, and then collected another assist as freshman
Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) beat the Bard goalie.
The Raptors responded with the next two goals, one by freshman Dylan Coburn (New York, N.Y.) and the other by freshman Houston Stebbins (Tuxedo Park, N.Y), to pull within one. Findlay closed out the first quarter with an unassisted tally and the Mount led 4-2.
Findlay scored again to open the second, but Bard sophomore Jacob Hartog (San Francisco, Calif.) answered for the Raptors. From there, the Knights scored the next six goals and blanked Bard in the third quarter to nab an 11-3 advantage at the start of the fourth.
For the Mount, Findlay scored five times on 13 shots. Costello racked up three goals and four assists, while Pullen netted a pair of goals. Sophomore
Patrick Byrne (Milford, Conn.) and freshman
Nick Sheehan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also scored goals for the Knights. Senior
Jonny Gasiewski (New Milford, Conn.) played a nice game in the midfield, collecting a game-high nine groundballs.
Mount sophomore
Zach Shaw (Dumont, N.J.) made 14 saves to collect the victory. Bard freshman Michael Luxemburg (Rockville, Md.) made 15 saves in the losing effort.
The Knights will travel to UMass-Boston for their next scheduled game on Saturday, March 20. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
