FARMINGDALE, NY – While connecting at just 36-percent from the field for the game, the Mount Saint Mary College men's basketball team dropped an 88-60 decision to Skyline Conference-leading Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon. The Rams improved to 19-2 overall and to 13-1 in conference play while the Blue Knights dropped to 4-17 overall and to 4-10 in the Skyline.
Farmingdale opened with the first six points of the game and never trailed again. The Rams pushed their lead to ten with an 8-0 run that began near the sixteen-minute mark and a jumper by junior Mike Campbell (Bronx, N.Y.) made it 16-6 with 14:25 to play in the half. Still leading by ten at the six minute mark, Farmingdale closed the half on a 12-5 run to lead 43-26 at the break.
The story was very much the same in the second half as the Rams extended their lead to as many as thirty before settling in for a twenty-eight point victory.
Campbell led the way for Farmingdale, tallying 23 points and 9 rebounds. He shot 8-for-10 from the floor and connected on 7-of-9 attempts from the free throw line. Junior Daniel Phillips (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior Davon Jackson (New York, N.Y.) each had 16 points while senior Damien Santana (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with 14.
Freshman
Carlos Valdez (Slate Hill, N.Y.) posted yet another double-double, totaling a team-high 14 points and 12 rebounds. Valdez has recorded a double-double in five of his last six games. Senior
Alex Kuchar (Rutherford, N.J.) was the only other player to reach double-figures for the Blue Knights, finishing with 13 points.
Up next for the Mount is a trip to Bard College on Thursday, February 12. The Blue Knights can keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a victory over the Raptors. The game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
