EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – During the three-day ECAC Division III Championships, the Mount Saint Mary College men's and women's swimming teams combined to break 11 school records. Sophomore
Enrique Naudy (Monroe, N.Y.) broke four individual records on the men's side and freshman
Brianna Perazella (Cheshire, Conn.) set four new marks on the women's side.
In addition to his records, Naudy was highly competitive at the meet. He opened up the weekend with a second place finish in the 200 backstroke, finishing less than a second off the winning pace with a school record time of 1:56.64. On day two, Naudy led off the 200 freestyle relay with a record-setting time of 22.54 and then finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.23, also a new school record. The sophomore closed out the meet on Sunday with a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:01.32, new record).
Perazella kicked off the meet with a 10th place finish in the 1,650 freestyle. Her time of 18:46.99 was a full minute faster than the previous school record. During the 1,650, Perazella also set a new school record for the 1,000 freestyle, finishing the first 1,000 yards in 11:19.51. The freshman went to finish 15th in the 500 freestyle (5:29.23, new record) and 12th in the 200 individual medley (2:22.43, new record).
On the men's side, the team broke a pair of relay records. Naudy teamed with junior
Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.), junior
Ryan Carroll (Goshen, N.Y.), and senior
Jay Matushefske (Garnerville, N.Y.) to set new marks in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.55) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.84).
Perazella combined with freshmen
Kassie Kayal (Wayne, N.J.),
Jamie Testa (Prospect, Conn.), and
Maggie Connell (Normandy Beach, N.J.) to break the school record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:37.06.
For the rest of the Mount Saint Mary lineup, the meet was riddled with top time performances. On the men's side, Heitman set new best times in the 100 freestyle (52.85) and the 50 freestyle (23.95) while also breaking two minutes in the 200 freestyle (1:59.71). Carroll set new best times in the 50 backstroke (27.24) and the 100 backstroke (56.37). Junior
Dan Courtney (Suffern, N.Y.) improved by nearly three seconds in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.25) and also set a new personal best in the 100 butterfly (1:01.44). Finally, senior
Stephen Ghostlaw (New Windsor, N.Y.) set new personal marks in the 200 freestyle (2:01.77) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.47).
Kayal finished 22nd in the 200 backstroke (2:27.49) and 18th in the 100 backstroke (1:08.89). She also set new personal best times in the 50 backstroke (32.25) and the 200 freestyle (2:10.80). Sophomore
Sarah Pruschki (Walden, N.Y.) swam her best times of the season in 100 freestyle (1:04.96) and the 200 freestyle (2:24.62), while freshman
Megan Whelan (Greenville, N.Y.) posted her best time to date in the 50 freestyle (29.42).
The Blue Knights return to action in January.
