NEWBURGH, NY – The Mount Saint Mary College men's and women's swim teams swept a double dual meet from the College of Staten Island and SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday. The Blue Knight men improve to 9-1 on the season while the women moved to 7-8.
On the women's side, the victory over the College of Staten Island wasn't assured until the final relay. Leading by six points and with seven points on the line in the 200 freestyle relay, the team of senior Liz D'Angelo (Fishkill, N.Y.), sophomore

Laura Volk (West Islip, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:05.82, capturing the relay points and the meet.
Freshman
Kevin Wallace (Middletown, Conn.) delivered the clinching blow for the Mount Saint Mary men in the second to last event. Wallace posted a time of 1:08.52 in the 100 yard breaststroke that earned first place points and put the Blue Knights far enough ahead that they couldn't be caught. The relay team of sophomore

Jay Matushefske (Garnerville, N.Y.) put an exclamation point on the meet with a winning time of 1:45.63 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Annie Parodi (Warwick, N.Y.) and freshman
Enrique Naudy# (Monroe, N.Y.) were both triple-event winners for the Mount. Parodi won the 200 freestyle (2:13.20), the 100 backstroke (1:09.83), and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.62), while Naudy took the 200 freestyle (1:50.38), the 200 individual medley (2:09.40), and the 100 backstroke (56.34).
Senior Tom DiLeo (Newburgh, N.Y.) won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:26.41 and Taliana captured the 50 freestyle (32.57) to round out the individual event winners.
The Blue Knights will have a week off before competing at the Skyline Conference championship meet next Saturday. The meet is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7. The women's team will aim to defend their title while the men will attempt to knock off Maritime College for their first ever championship.
