NEWBURGH, NY – In their second meet at the Kaplan pool this week, the Mount Saint Mary men's swimming team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University, 68-38, while the women fell, 111-89, to the same team on Thursday night.
In the first event of the evening, the 200 yard medley relay team of sophomore
Shannon McNally (Ronkokoma, N.Y.), freshman
Laura Condon (Syracuse, N.Y.), senior
Liz D' Angelo (Fishkill, N.Y.), and senior
Laura Volk (West Islip, N.Y.) took first place and earned eleven points for their team. The men's team swam unopposed in the opening relay, but the team of sophomore
Brian Carr (Linden, N.J.), freshman
Kevin Wallace (Middletown, Conn.), sophomore
Dan Courtney (Suffern, N.Y.) and sophomore
Stephen Bloomer (New Windsor, N.Y.) posted a time of 2:02.85.
In the individual events, freshman
Enrique Naudy (Monroe, N.Y.) continued his spectactular first season, taking the 200 yard freestyle (2:12.85), the 200 yard individual medley (2:04.23). In the medley, Naudy broke the record previously held by 2008 graduate
Matt Peters, who had the record at 2:04.41. Naudy continued his fine night by winning the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.51). His teammate, sophomore
Brian Heitman (Ramsey, N.J.) was also a multi-event winner, taking the 50 yard freestyle (24.85) and the 100 yard freestyle (55.39).
On the women's side, junior
Annie Parodi (Warwick, N.Y.) had a fine night in the losing effort. She won the 200 yard individual medley (2:27.62), the 100 yard butterfly (1:06.19), and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.15).
The Mount Saint Mary College men's team improves their record to 7-1 overall, while the women fall to 5-8 on the season. The swim teams will next be in action this Saturday, January 31 as they host the College of Staten Island and conference foe SUNY College at Old Westbury in the final home meet of the season. On senior day, the men's team will honor
Thomas DiLeo (Newburgh, N.Y.) and
Anthony Martini (Wallkill, N.Y.), while the women's team will honor
Nancy Costa (Lagrangeville, N.Y.),
Erin Knight (Shelton, Conn), Liz D'Angelo, and
Laura Volk. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
