NEWBURGH, NY – It came down to the final relay during Saturday's Skyline Conference meet between St. Joseph's College and Mount Saint Mary College, and it was the Golden Eagles that prevailed, eventually taking the meet by a score of 104-95. St. Joseph's improved to 4-6 in dual meet competition while the Blue Knights dropped to 3-6.
Leading by two points at the start of the 200 freestyle relay, the Golden Eagles pulled out the relay with a time of 2:05.89, just several seconds ahead of Mount Saint Mary's time (2:08.68).
Junior
Annie Parodi (Warwick, N.Y.) was the only dual winner for the Mount, taking the 200 individual medley (2:31.53) and the 500 freestyle (6:02.80). Sophomore
Christina Gulotta (Howell, N.J.) was a winner in the 200 freestyle (2:17.31) and was second in the 100 freestyle (1:02.08).
For visiting St. Joseph's, senior Danielle Sacca (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and junior Nicole Hatzispirou (Holbrook, N.Y.) were dual winners. Sacca blew out the field in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.46 and then also captured the 100 freestyle in 1:01.94, edging the Mount's Gulotta by fourteen hundredths of a second. Hatzispirou dominated the 1000 freestyle in 12:35.69 and also took home the 100 butterfly (1:11.24).
Up next for Mount Saint Mary is a home meet against Drew University on Saturday, January 24. The meet, including the men's and women's teams, is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
