Blue Knights Rebound Nicely, Blank Albany College of Pharmacy

NEWBURGH, NY – Following a tough road trip to Buffalo, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team played well in their return to Kaplan Field on Thursday night and evened their record for the season at 2-2. Junior Danielle Bucco (Washingtonville, N.Y.) scored two goals, her fourth and fifth of the season, as the Blue Knights cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Albany College of Pharmacy.

Bucco put Mount Saint Mary on the board right out of the gates, scoring just fifty-three seconds into the contest. Junior Mercedes Motz (Middletown, N.Y.) slid a nice pass across the top of the box from the right side and Bucco drilled a shot to the back of the net. It was the only goal in an otherwise evenly matched first half.

With her team still leading but just one goal, senior Marissa Cannella (Cornwall, N.Y.) added some insurance in the 64th minute with her first goal of the season. After a nice play by sophomore Anne Siemon (Watertown, Conn.) to settle the ball in the box, Cannella ripped a shot from the left side of the box that snuck inside the near post. Siemon was credited with an assist on the play.

Bucco capped the scoring just two minutes later with a nice individual effort. The junior outraced a defender to a loose ball down the right side and then hit a perfect shot that caught the upper corner on the far side of the cage.

Senior Jessica Thibault (Watertown, Conn.) made four saves to preserve her first shutout of the season and fourth of her career. ACP goalkeeper Stephanie Borges (Somerset, Mass.) played well for the Panthers, making eight saves.

The Panthers also received a strong effort from forward Rachel Smith (Albion, N.Y.) who tested the Mount defenders for much of the evening. Juniors Samantha Mech (Mahwah, N.J.) and Christina Patterson (West Hempstead, N.Y.) played all ninety minutes for the Blue Knights, consistently negating the attacks of Smith and the rest of the Panthers.

Mount Saint Mary has just one day off before the opening of their Skyline Conference season. The Blue Knights head to Old Westbury this Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start.
